Rising artist Sarya captures fleeting connection in ‘ARE YOU A TREE?’

Today, emerging Taiwanese-American artist sarya (they/them) releases their newest single, “ARE YOU A TREE?”, a wispy and immersive soundscape that is as much whispered confession as daydream. Mixing lofi beats, warm electronic textures, and breathy vocals, Sarya creates a song that hangs like mist across a lake, muted, romantic, and just a little bit spellbinding.

“ARE YOU A TREE?” has a heart in a moment of personal reflection while hiking alone on Rattlesnake Ledge in Washington state. Raised above a lake so still, sarya's spirit could see people where trees sank below, their quiet embracing either love or loneliness. This evocative image gives color to the song, as though the natural world is quietly observing the artist’s ruminations.

The production is minimal yet lush, with a lightly rhythmic quality that suggests footsteps on soft ground, and hazed synths swirl through Sarya’s tender performance. What makes the song so ethereal is its simplicity. There’s a gentle feeling, which makes it ideal for late-night thinking or a brief pause from the chaos rushing around you.

And to music blogs and platforms for discovering artists: “ARE YOU A TREE?” is a reminder for why lo-fi and indie electronic genres are still so captivating, documenting fleeting emotions in a way that feels almost cinematic. With Sarya’s fresh storytelling perspective as a Taiwanese-American non-binary artist, the everyday is transformed into an intensely personal narrative about connection, solitude, and the beauty of seeing the world through a different lens.

With “ARE YOU A TREE?” Sarya continues to carve their path as a one-to-watch artist, releasing music that touches not only the ears but the heart. It’s an experience, an invitation to pause and reflect, to think and feel.
